Gilles Babinet's key topics

These conferences can be given in French or English.

Digital transformation of companies

This conference looks at the origins of the digital revolution and its consequences on large organisations (changes in the production model, the management model, etc.). It can be presented in several ways depending on the type of activity of the client. This is Gilles' main conference, which is constantly being improved in line with societal changes.

Public administration and digital

Focusing more on the intertwining of public policy and digital technology, this conference discusses the political issues related to the emergence of digital technology as well as the challenges of the digital transformation of the public administration through numerous examples. In particular, it deals with the cultural and managerial changes that digital transformation brings about.

Big data and artificial intelligence

This conference insists on the importance of AI in a digital revolution that has only just begun. It therefore seeks to create a historical timeline of the history of data, the challenge of its liberation by increasingly rapid technologies and the advent of artificial intelligence. This conference avoids the dystopian bias usually evoked when dealing with this theme, without denying the major issues in terms of regulation and ethics.

Work and economy in the digital age

The major social and economic changes that we can expect in the coming world are summarised in this conference. The current models and the challenges of their evolution are questioned, particularly in relation to the various recent digital upheavals.

Digital and emerging countries

In emerging countries, digital has been seen as an important transition factor, capable of providing education as well as medical, financial, transport and other services. While experience shows that these services are not yet having the expected impact, they are nevertheless transforming the economy and social systems of emerging countries. This conference is based on numerous examples from countries as diverse as Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco, South Africa...

Smart City

It has been decades that we now hear the word smart-cities without really knowing what it means. SmartCity are first and foremost cities that are enjoyable and inclusive. And if technology is not a ultimate goal, it can nonetheless be a powerful mean for changing the current city processes by reducing its environmental impact, increase the inclusion of its citizen, create a more liveable and enjoyable environment. There are now good examples of cities that have increased the engagement of their inhabitants, reduced the environmental footprint of transportation and supply chain, increase the economical and social inclusion with the help of digital, data and machine learning.

Industry 4.0

In the current era, industrial process are rapidly evolving due to several factor such as energy prices, de-manufacturing, Co2 constraints and the disturbance on supplychains (wars, viruses…). Industry 4.0 is a game changer as it may completely redefine any of these points by saving energy, reducing environmental harms, shortening the supply-chains and increasing the overall sustainability of the goods markets. But how is this new paradigm working ? Who has successfully dealt with it ? And how to organise the industrial processes of tomorrow ?

Environment and digital: green IT and IT4Green

The topics of this conference are at the heart of Gilles Babinet's work. It focuses on the role of digital technology in the ecological transition. Beyond studying the issue of green IT - energy consumption and CO2 emissions and other social and ecological externalities of digital technology, it is important to see how digital technology can serve ecology in an IT4Green approach. Through numerous examples (smart electricity grids, waste treatment and recycling, supply chains, industry 4.0, housing and urban planning, transport, etc.), the significant performance gains made possible by digital technology are highlighted. It also discusses the cultural, regulatory and technological changes that need to be made for digital to become a real factor of transition.
